These scenes are at a beaver dam in an aspen grove along Highway 89, north of Custer, SD in the Black Hills National Forest. They are the beginning of a new series exploring the visual imagery of this single beaver pond as it changes over the years. In the first year there was one pond. In the second year (2010) the beaver built a number of additional dams. The grove is changing dramatically under the impact of the beaver. In 2011 the beaver continued its construction and added about five additional dams.

This took a long time, started 2009 and finished 2011. The main difference between the two shown above was the change in the roses from pink to white and the addition of the rose at bottom. The first self-portrait (fkb1282 to right) for this series seemed too stern, I wanted something a bit more friendly, especially for the studio.
